Former Secretary of State Colin Powell took on Dick Cheney and Rush Limbaugh Sunday, shooting down their accusations that he had abandoned the Republican Party while continuing to dish out advice to the GOP.Colin Powell is a great American. I think HE was misinformed in voting for Barack Obama, and his own personal history belies the notion that the GOP lacks inclusion or fails to provide opportunities for qualified minorities.
Powell, speaking on CBS' "Face the Nation," touted his Republican credentials and urged his party to be more moderate and inclusive. He was answering back after Limbaugh called on him to join the Democrats and Cheney said he thought Powell had already left the GOP.
"Rush will not get his wish and Mr. Cheney was misinformed. I am still a Republican," Powell said, noting that he "oted solidly for Republican candidates" for president for 20 years, spent 10 years of his life serving in Republican administrations and spoke at two GOP conventions.
"You know, neither (Cheney) nor Rush Limbaugh are members of the membership committee of the Republican Party. I get to make my decision on that," Powell said. "And so I will continue to work in a way that I think is helpful to the country and helpful to the party."
Actually, it's something of a shame for him to be getting into these debates at this point.

Powell is irrelevant to Republicans and conservatives. He only matters to media types.

I never understood the fuss about him. He seemed about as grounded in principle as that last guy the Republicans nominated to run for president. What was his name? He was pretty "inclusive" too, come to think of it. Didn't work out very well for him, did it?
Note-This is a slightly edited version of a something I posted at another blog earlier, but it pretty much sums up my feelings on the wayward general and so-called moderate "republicans:"
Sometime in the future, the historians of the day (and that is assuming the earth hasn't degenerated into a spherical Islamo-fascist wasteland) will be digging around looking for the things that ultimately brought about the demise of the greatest nation that ever existed.
I believe there will be two things that will figure prominently in their findings:
1) Will be a piece of legislation that was actually a constitutional amendment.
2) Will be a person's name.
The constitutional amendment I am referring to will be the 16th.
The name will be that of Barack Hussein Obama's.
Colin Powell turned his back on his supposed party and endorsed Obama for POTUS.
At the end of the day, whether it was done for racial reasons, or some other reason, it really doesn't matter, as I believe Obama is doing so much damage to this nation so rapidly that we are probably going to lose our status as the preeminent world power before he leaves office, and could very well lose far more than that.
Colin Powell has no business in the Republican Party, and neither do a whole lot of other people, particularly those who support any part of the Obama agenda.
Obama is hell bent on bringing about a for-real "post American" world. No sane, right-thinking American who truly believes in freedom and liberty should want to have any part in that.

Colin Powell is largely irrelevant.He is only important in the left wing media and his own mind.Lets see him run for the nomination in 2012 and lets see how far he would get.He already knows the answer or he would have ran years ago.Powell is a media whore,nothing more than that.

I consider Powell to be a national hero. He fought for his country and deserves the accolades that go with that. He served presidents and did so with honor.
As far as politics go, he is entitled to his opinion, however, it really shouldn't carry much more weight than any other person that makes a living by giving his opinion.
Powell is used by the MSM to give his "Republican" opinion with one caveat: as long as it's negative towards Republicans and more importantly against conservatives.

I would be willing to entertain your assertion that GWB caused all of this, if you can provide me with the exact piece of legislation that he signed that sent the US economy spiraling into the ground.
GWB had nothing to do with it.
The blame for the current world-wide economic calamity can be laid squarely at the feet of three people:
Barney Frank, Chris Dodd & Maxine Waters.
GWB tried several times to get congress to correct the looming problems at Fanny Mae and Freddie Mac, but the three people named above insisted that nothing was amiss and worked to block any attempts at reform.
