Fear and Imbalance! Fox News is the Enemy!

You know Jon Stewart can be very funny, but frankly I rarely watch his show or similar folks like Bill Maher, et al., as they have no sense of proportion (not to mention taste), and frankly they serve as the shock-troops of the mainstream establishment's cultural commissars.

Personally, I don't rely on Fox for all of my news and information, and I'm no big fan of people like Ann Coulter or Rush Limbaugh. But let's take a breath here as we read Captain Fogg, who's sounded the tocsin against Fox News as "the enemy":

The people who watch Fox usually don't watch anything else. They have no idea that the lies and distortions they've been hearing are often repudiated and disproved by all the other news services. They haven't a clue that one of the largest anti-American campaigns, indeed the most organized program of treason against truth, justice and democracy is broadcasting 24 hours a day. Fox is using and will use everything they can find to undermine confidence in our government and anything it does and as you can see is hoping our country will fall and our hopes will fail. To me, it constitutes as great a danger to our future as any foreign enemy or global economic collapse. Traitors, saboteurs, liars and purveyors of irrational hate, Fox News is the enemy and anyone who hopes not just for our survival, but our improvement owes it to the world to use every opportunity to expose them.
That's really strong (and this is not satire), but don't even get me going about the liberal press, where reports from even left-leaning organizations have confirmed a large and systemic bias throughout 2008 against John McCain and the GOP, and in favor of Barack Obama and the Democrats. Not only that, the public is not fooled by any leftist allegations of "traitors, saboteurs, and liars" at Fox News. Indeed, 7 out of 10 Americans agreed in October that most journalists wanted to see Obama become president in 2008.

It's natural for partisans of both left and right to attack and discredit their opponents. It helps, though, to have the facts - not to mention moral integrity - on your side. That, I'm afraid is not the case concerning the ravings of comedy talking heads like Jon Stewart or his unhinged followers who dwell in the bottom muck of the nihilist fever swamps of the progressive left.

So, you denounce Fogg for calling Fox "the enemy," yet have no problem with calling my blog a "nihilist fever swamp." Do you even listen yourself, or do you find reading your blog to be as difficult as I do?

Besides, what Fogg is accusing Fox News of is the exact sort of stuff you guys always say about us. We're "the enemy" because we opposed Bush and his dangerous policies. I understand why folks on both sides complain about the demonization that the other side gives them, but I don't understand how you can pretend it only happens on one side. Liberals demonize conservatives and vice versa. And your blog is so chock full of the demonization of "nihilist postmodern leftists" that you insist that all liberals are moral relativists who deny objective truth.

Here's an excerpt from a blogger you approvingly quoted from:
We are presently besieged by savage enemies. Islamists, Marxists, Anarchists, cruel dictators and criminal tyrants. We are besieged by alien cults of death who nurse apocalyptic visions of destruction. Everything that we hold dear is under attack and threatened. But the most dangerous and shameless enemy of all lives right here amongst us. Our very own treacherous patriots, who rush to give the keys to the kingdom to the barbarians at our gates. The idiots, the fools, the delusional liberals, and those elitist amoral progressives who honestly believe that by utterly destroying the fabric of this great nation they will somehow save it. They have traded our pride for guilt and our strength for safety. And I despise them for it. I despise them more than I despise our sworn enemies, because our sworn enemies do not disguise their motives under the cloak of patriotism.

You then say that this captures your meaning when you call secular progressives "nihilists." For you to pretend to now be above the demonization of your political opponents is utterly laughable. You yet again have proven yourself to be an utter joke, Donald.

Oh, and you could have at least have linked to one of my nihilist posts, which would have made more sense than the one you linked to; which wasn't at all nihilistic. But perhaps even you were aware of the mocking tone of my nihilism.

Ah "Doctor" Biobrain. Actually, there's polling evidence to back up my point about Fogg, as well as the my identification of your gang as "nihilist."

Defending a crank like that doesn't make you look so hot, but considering the crowd you run with, it's not surprising.

Donald: Jon Stewart is about satire. You don't like it presumably because his show nails it. (Not always, but more hits than misses.)

Bill Maher is more scathing, but he also can be spot on the money and I always watch his show. He usually has a right winger on in the interest of balance, and it makes for some compelling TV.

Ann Coulter and Limbaugh I understand you not supporting. Even though I consider them both to be satirists, they simply aren't funny, compelling or interesting. And Limbaugh is a drug-addled gas bag who frequents prostitutes in third world countries. (He was caught at the border with a bag of illegal viagra if you want to know.)

Fox News was exposed as running the White House talking points. They had memos copied to them, that they distributed to all their news hosts for them to repeat throughout the day.

That is documented, and you can't run from that. Now, if CNN starts to do the same, I would like to know about that as well.

If anyone has contrary information, I would love to see it. But Fox is not now, nor has it ever pretended to be, Fair and Balanced.

You're on the wrong side of public opinion on that, Tim.

The polls cited at the links prove the point MSNBC is way more partisan than Fox News, so you've just confirmed your own radical nihilism once again.

Fox is the only news channel I watch because they happen to be the best. Special Report is still a great show even though the host changed and the morning show is a great mix of hard news and feature items.

I think the most mature thing to do is watch and read all major news outlets.

I don't watch TV, but I go to both the CNN and Fox News sites. I read both the Washington Post and Washington Times. The New York Times had pretty good coverage on Iraq a few years ago.

What you need to do is understand the bias of each and adjust accordingly.

Re TV and Broadcast news -

What gets me about the left is that all of the cable and broadcast networks are liberal; CBS, NBC, ABC, PBS, MSNBC and CNN and only one conservative, Fox News.

Yet Fox drives them nuts. They can't stand that even one outlet is conservative. It's typical of their intolerance for dissenting opinions, which is much more prevalent on their side than on ours.

In what way did I defend Fogg? I didn't say anything about him. Don't you think it's about time to put down the crack pipe and join reality? Or do you find it much more fun to just make it up as you go along?

Of course, seeing as how you agree that I'm part of "the most dangerous and shameless enemy of all" who are "utterly destroying the fabric of this great nation," I'm not quite sure you're capable of joining reality. Nor do I see how you imagine you have a leg to stand on in your attacks of Stewart and Fogg. They may think Fox is the enemy, but you approvingly quoted from a dude who thinks liberals are worse than terrorists, dictators, and tyrants. Uh, hello! Do you even read this stuff before quoting it?

It's bad enough that you're such a shameless hypocrite, but it's downright scary how unaware you are of your blatant hypocrisy.

I have to agree with Captain Fogg. Fox news is most definitely the enemy---if you are a leftist moonbat obsessed with having ANY news released that might run foul of your own warped views.
