Written by Kim Severson, someone who has barely lived in the South for one year. She barely knows what she's talking about, and sounds like she might as well be from another planet.
Interesting, but I don't agree with a lot of what is said in the article.
I'm from the South, and I resent the fact that everything, including good manners, and civility, is always made into something to do with race.
Good manners, or how we interact with a person, has nothing to do with the color of one's skin, but everything to do with what we are, inside.
To me, good manners is being kind, and considerate of another's feelings, and we either have that, or we don't, depending upon our own upbringing, and environment, and how that has influenced our thinking.
Just because society as a whole seems to be sinking to a new low, doesn't mean that we, as individuals, have to.
Perhaps, that is too simplistic, but then, I am a simple woman.
