Seeing its federal funding under threat from Congress, ACORN’s leader defended the community organizing group from allegations of tax fraud Sunday.Issa's August ACORN report is here: "Committee on Oversight and Government Reform."
“You have an organization that absolutely pays its taxes, that absolutely has firewalls,” said Bertha Lewis, CEO of ACORN, short for the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now. Lewis was appearing on "Fox News Sunday" with Chris Wallace ....
“The bottom line is there is no transparency in ACORN,” said Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), ranking member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.
Issa and other Republicans have investigated the community organizing group. Issa’s staff issued a report where it alleges ACORN of tax fraud, hiding its books behind a number of overlapping charity and nonprofit groups.
“You are giving an answer that your own counsel says isn’t true according to your own counsel. You don’t have firewalls. That’s from an internal memo,” Issa said.

I had seen Ms. Lewis's interview with Bill O'Reily back in May and was impressed her demeanor and was looking forward to her Interview with Chris Wallace. What I saw was a woman who showed a total and complete lack of respect shown toward Rep. Issa. Not once did she acknowledge his presence. Bertha Lewis instead acted lake a petulant child making sure to look in any direction but toward Rep. Issa, responded to any question imparted by Rep. Issa as if He hadn’t even asked it and in general treated him like he was completely and utterly beneath her contempt. Granted, Rep. Issa asked hard questions, which she avoided answering, but he did treat her with respect. Where does Ms. Lewis get off treating another human being with such contempt? As the CEO of ACORN, she has to expect to be asked tough questions and if she can’t take the pressure and instead takes everything so personally, she needs to step aside and let someone take over the reins who can act in a more professional manner.
